Seminar of Restoration of Furniture and Woodwork

Woodwork reaches its highest artisan level in the restoration of antique furniture and woodwork. This handicraft has a high tradition in Tuscany and in other Italian regions where this quite refined manual work has maintained a flourishing market during the years.

In the artisan workshops skilful techniques bring back their ancient beauty to unique pieces, giving new life to past traditions. According to the manufacture and decoration of an antique piece, we have several techniques of restoration which respect its structure and shape.

SYLLABUS
A study of the History of the Furniture and Antiques concerning style and time, precedes the actual restoration. A Graphic and Metric Relief of the whole piece of furniture is then carried out, in order to point out where to operate and restore the missing parts. Finally, the Cleaning and Polishing, and, if necessary, the Paint Decoration or the Lackering are executed.

GUIDED VISITS
During the Seminar there will be two guided visits: one to Florence (laboratories of restoration and antique shops); the other one in the Province of Arezzo to laboratories of restoration but also to factories where furniture is made in 19th-century style.
