CONTINUING EDUCATIOn

Each course includes Italian language lessons so that students can learn essential terms regarding their selected subjects. It is possible to have an interpreter throughout the entire course for the Continuing Education Program. The content of each course is carefully prepared and provides an extensive theoretical course, however, the emphasis is placedon practical lessons. For instance, many of the Italian Art History and History of Miniatures lessons take place during visits to museums, castles and monasteries. In the Archeology, students will be able to register, draw and label finds, and, if they so desire, even participate in excavations. In addition, they will visit important Etruscan Archeological centers such as Populonia and Vetulonia, as well as the Museum of Florence. During the Gastronomy Seminar, along with practical lessons in traditional "poor" cuisine and in renaissance gastronomy, students will visit vineyards, farms and table decoration workshops In order to involve students in the Medieval History and History of Miniature Seminars, the school has included lessons of Decorative Drawing during which students can work on reproducing details of miniated manuscripts such as letters of the alphabet or details of Medieval paintings. The Ceramics seminar will include visits to local museums and provide the opportunity for hands-on experience at the studios of respected artisans. The Embroidery Course includes practical lessons and visits to specialized work-shops like the "Centro del Merletto" (a lace production center) whose creations are appreciated all over the world. In this cultural atmosphere linked to history and to Tuscan artisan traditions, in particular in the Arezzo territory, three seminars have been created in the fields of Interior Decorating, Interior Design and Antiques, seminars in Wood Furniture Restoration and the Restoration of Gilding, Lacquering, Marquetry and Carving, which are all linked to the arts of the Minor Guilds. BALDASSARRE CASTIGLIONE ends its course offerings with its seminar in Landscape Painting, which allows students to gain a better understanding of Tuscany's picturesque landscape. This Program also offers Master Classes (Specialized Courses) in the fields of Glass, Mosaics and Ceramics.
